More than 600 personnel, including coast guard and naval units, are involved in the ongoing operation to recover survivors from the vessel that was en route from Surabaya to Banjarmasin when it disappeared under severe weather conditions.

Choppy seas and strong winds have complicated the search, with officials stating that underwater rescue efforts cannot be initiated at this time. The ship, which had a capacity for 500 passengers, was not overloaded, according to Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi.
