The vessel, a speedboat carrying five photojournalists, two crew members and a route guide, lost contact after departing Carita, a coastal town in Banten province. The last communication from the boat was received by a journalist’s family on Monday at 6:13 p.m., confirming the group had reached the waters surrounding Anak Krakatau.

Rescuers have been working since Tuesday to locate the missing individuals, but no contact has been established. The journalists represent several media outlets, including Antara, Anadolu Agency, Merdeka, iNews, and a freelance photographer. Anak Krakatau, known as the “child of Krakatau,” has been under heightened alert due to ongoing eruptions that have disrupted air travel and prompted schools in affected areas to switch to online learning.
