Matar, 28, was found guilty of engaging in an act of transnational terrorism. He is already serving a 25-year sentence in a New York state prison following his conviction for attempted murder in the August 2022 attack.

Rushdie has faced a decades-old death threat over his novel “The Satanic Verses.” Matar’s lawyers didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
