POLICY WIRE — London, UK — The Green Party has called for the introduction of a windfall tax on profits exceeding £800 million earned by major banks. The proposed tax aims to alleviate the tax burden on approximately one million smaller businesses across the UK.
Zack Polanski, a prominent Green Party figure, stated that the tax would target excessive profits made by large financial institutions. “Profits over £800 million should be subject to a special tax, which will help cut tax bills for a million smaller companies,” Polanski said.
The proposal comes amid growing concerns over economic disparities and the impact of high corporate profits on smaller enterprises. The Green Party argues that such a tax would not only generate revenue but also promote a more balanced economic environment.
