Vibrio vulnificus is naturally occurring in warm seawater and can cause severe infections, particularly in individuals with weakened immune systems. The bacteria enter the body through open wounds or by ingestion of contaminated seafood.
“The increase in Vibrio vulnificus infections is a concerning trend that demands immediate public awareness and preventive measures,” said Dr. Helen Mitchell, an infectious disease expert at the World Health Organization.
