The attack took place during the Dooly County High School homecoming weekend. Although not affiliated with the school, the superintendent acknowledged the potential impact on students, families, and staff. Schools are set to reopen Monday with added security measures, though specifics remain unclear. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that deputies responded to gunfire around 1:25 a.m. at a neighborhood block party.
Two men, aged 20 and 23, were found dead at the scene with fatal gunshot wounds, while multiple others were shot and taken to local hospitals. Dooly County Coroner Brett Walls called the situation ‘horrific,’ noting that many were injured while fleeing. No suspects have been identified, and no motive has been disclosed. Vienna Mayor Eddie Daniels said the shooting occurred near his home but had yet to receive details from authorities.
