Federal Judge Dismisses Jan. 6 Seditious Conspiracy Charges Against Oath Keepers

POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — On Tuesday, a federal judge approved the Justice Department’s motion to dismiss seditious conspiracy charges against members of the right-wing Oath Keepers militia who participated in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The decision comes after the Justice Department cited legal complexities and potential constitutional issues in pursuing the charges. The dismissed cases involved several high-profile members of the Oath Keepers, who were initially accused of plotting to prevent the certification of the 2020 presidential election results.
