FBI Subpoenas Alaska Senate Candidate Gerald Heikes Days Before Election Day
Federal agents serve a subpoena to candidate Gerald Heikes as a DOJ probe investigates potential voter deception and spoiler candidate tactics in Alaska.
POLICY WIRE — Anchorage, Alaska — Federal investigators have issued a grand jury subpoena to Alaska Senate candidate Gerald Heikes just days before the state heads to the polls.
Heikes, described as a longshot in the race, was ordered by federal prosecutors to provide any records concerning various political organizations and other individuals involved in the contest.
The legal action is part of an expanding criminal investigation into whether operatives associated with Democrat Mary Peltola strategically utilized spoiler candidates to influence the election outcome.
According to reports, FBI agents located Heikes on Saturday while he was hours away from his residence assisting a friend with a home project.
In an exclusive interview, Heikes noted that the agents were polite during the encounter before departing after serving the documents.
Simultaneously, federal agents are conducting interviews with donors to incumbent Senator Dan J. Sullivan to examine allegations of potential voter deception within the federal election process.
The Senate race remains highly competitive as thousands of ballots are yet to be counted across the state during the midterm election cycle.
