Elon Musk Under Consideration as Potential Investor in Warner-Paramount Merger
Elon Musk could become investor in $111B Warner-Paramount merger, potentially linking him to CNN and CBS News.
POLICY WIRE — New York, United States — Elon Musk is being considered as a potential investor in Paramount as its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery approaches completion, according to a new report.
The proposed deal, valued at approximately $111 billion, would create one of the largest media conglomerates globally. The merger has drawn attention due to Musk’s possible involvement, which could place him in a position of partial ownership over CBS News and CNN.
Paramount executives are reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing in Musk as part of an equity investment group, according to Semafor. This development could raise concerns among Democrats, given Musk’s political affiliations and recent actions, including his role in the federal workforce reduction through DOGE and his financial support for Republican causes.

Musk has maintained a close relationship with Larry Ellison, the father of Paramount CEO David Ellison. In 2022, Ellison invested $1 billion into Musk’s acquisition of X, and he also supported Musk’s electric car company in 2018, according to Semafor.
Paramount recently announced a proposed settlement with a dozen states that had filed lawsuits to block the merger. The company has also faced scrutiny over changes in editorial direction at CBS News following the appointment of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief last October.
Weiss has denied allegations that she is biasing coverage in favor of the Trump administration or Israel, stating her goal is to restore public trust in journalism. The Independent has reached out to both Paramount and Musk for further comment.
