Dubai history has been written as the largest congregation in the world was hosted in the city to mark the Independence Day of Pakistan. It is said that approximately 60,000 individuals gathered at Dubai Expo City on August 10, according to the Embassy of Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) making this the largest gathering of the likes globally. Being labeled as an unprecedented activity in terms of scale by the officials, it was enabled by the close interaction between the governments of Pakistan and the UAE. Ambassador of Pakistan to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, expressed gratitude to the UAE leadership who assisted them in holding the huge celebration. The celebrations in this year alone were distinct and different in terms of size and energy, Tirmizi said. An estimated 60,000 people attended the event which was the biggest Pakistan Independence Day gathering held all around the world.
The Independence Day of Pakistan is a day that is commonly celebrated in the Pakistani communities and around Pakistan with huge crowds. However, the size of this event in Dubai was instrumental. With patriotic songs, colourful stage performances and traditional food stalls, it was the way of showing the country pride. It was an emotional day to many of the overseas Pakistanis. Hours before the principal ceremony started, families came with many of them wearing green and white colors and waving Pakistani flags. It has cultural performances, speeches, stalls to showcase Pakistani culture and music and food stalls. Taking place in Dubai Expo City made the event look big and international. The venue with its large spaces and modern amenities could easily accommodate thousands of people at the same time and also portrayed the image of Dubai as a meeting point in the international community.
On the event Ambassador Tirmizi highlighted the great importance of Pakistani community living in UAE. He commended the role they played not just in the development of the UAE but also in Pakistan economy. He stated that the diaspora of Pakistanis has contributed significantly to the growth of the UAE and they have been the backbone of our economy because of their remittances. The overseas Pakistanis continue to contribute to Pakistan via remittances which are vital source of foreign exchange when the country is undergoing fiscal reforms and struggling to meet its external accounts. The ambassador requested expatriates to keep playing the positive role in development of the country.
In its celebrations, the embassy made another move of simplifying the lives of the Pakistanis in other countries. There was an introduction of an online tracking system of passports and National Identity Cards of Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP).
This will reduce time wastage and unnecessary trips to the embassy because the Pakistani overseas will get an opportunity to check the status of their document online. According to the officials, the system belongs to the continuous work to enhance consular services and their increased transparency.
Education was another point in the speech by the ambassador. He also conveyed good news that two of the community schools in the UAE which are handled by the Pakistani community were ranked as Good for the first time in twenty years. Those were the local education authorities ranking it due to the improvement in the teaching standards, facilities and performance of students. Tirmizi further stated that the embassy had encouraged further the number of Pakistani owned-private schools to establish branches in the Emirates as the community was raising needs to access quality education.
The scale and success of the event also showed the strength of the Pakistan–UAE relationship. The UAE is home to over 1.6 million Pakistanis, making them one of the largest expatriate communities in the country. Events like these not only strengthen cultural ties but also serve as a reminder of the shared history and cooperation between the two nations. The UAE government’s support in hosting such a large gathering reflects the respect and value placed on the Pakistani community. In turn, Pakistani expatriates have played a key role in sectors ranging from construction and healthcare to business and technology in the Emirates.
For those who attended, the celebration was more than just an event, it was a reminder of home and a chance to come together as a community. Parents took the opportunity to teach their children about Pakistan’s history and independence. Many young attendees, some born and raised in the UAE, experienced the unique excitement of a large-scale celebration of their heritage. The green and white flags, the sound of the national anthem, and the sight of thousands of people united in patriotism created a powerful image. It was a moment of pride not just for Pakistanis, but for all those who value cultural unity and friendship among nations.
The embassy has hinted that such celebrations will continue to grow in the coming years. With Dubai’s infrastructure and the Pakistani community’s enthusiasm, future Independence Day events could attract even larger crowds. More initiatives for overseas Pakistanis are also expected, including improvements in community facilities, cultural programs, and educational opportunities. The launch of the online tracking system is just one step in a broader plan to modernize services and make them more accessible.
The 2025 Independence Day celebration in Dubai will be remembered as a milestone. Bringing together 60,000 people from different walks of life, it showcased the unity and resilience of the Pakistani diaspora. It also underlined the enduring friendship between Pakistan and the UAE, built on mutual respect and shared progress. As Ambassador Tirmizi put it, the day was a reminder that Pakistanis abroad remain deeply connected to their homeland and committed to its future, no matter where in the world they may be.
