DOJ ‘Apologizes’ for Continuing Trump’s Taxpayer Ads After Court Order
DOJ admits running Trump's taxpayer-funded ads after court order. Millions spent on campaign-style spots despite legal restrictions.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — The Department of Justice has acknowledged its failure to stop the airing of taxpayer-funded campaign-style advertisements for former President Donald Trump, even after a federal court issued an order halting their broadcast.
The court’s ruling prohibited the use of funds from the Department of Homeland Security to develop, distribute, or air the ads for at least two weeks. However, according to data from AdImpact, the ads continued to appear in nearly 400 locations within hours of the decision being issued.
A notice sent by DOJ officials included an apology to the court, citing a delay in receiving the order. Despite this, the government has already spent millions on the production and placement of the ads, which feature messaging aligned with Trump’s political agenda and end with the disclaimer “Paid for by the U.S. Government.”
