Death Row Inmate Requests Luxurious Final Meal Before Georgia Execution

POLICY WIRE — Atlanta, United States — A man sentenced to death for the 2003 murders of two real estate agents in Georgia has requested an elaborate final meal ahead of his upcoming execution.

Stacey Humphreys, 53, is set to be executed by lethal injection at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson on Wednesday. He was convicted in the fatal shootings of 33-year-old Cynthia “Cyndi” Williams and 21-year-old Lori Brown, who were both killed during a robbery at a real estate office near Atlanta.

Humphreys has asked for a final meal that includes barbecue beef brisket, pork ribs, a bacon double cheeseburger, french fries, buffalo wings, a meat lovers pan pizza, butter pecan ice cream, peach ice cream, and two caffeine-free sodas. While some states impose limits on last meals, it remains unclear if Georgia has similar restrictions. The state has not yet responded to inquiries about its policies.

The execution would mark the first in Georgia since 2025. It comes after repeated delays, including a recent motion filed by Humphreys’ lawyers alleging juror misconduct during his original trial. The motion claims one juror lied during selection and allegedly influenced the jury’s decision to impose the death penalty, despite initial deadlock among other jurors.

According to the motion, the juror reportedly misled others about the consequences of their deadlock, suggesting that without a unanimous decision, Humphreys would go free. The lawyer argues that had the court been informed of the true nature of the deadlock, Georgia law would have required a life sentence instead. The motion seeks a new sentencing trial, though it is uncertain whether this will delay or cancel the execution.
