Deadly Texas Floods Claim Two Lives, More Storms Forecast
Texas faces severe flooding with two fatalities reported. Mandatory evacuations are underway as heavy rains continue to wreak havoc.
POLICY WIRE — Austin, Texas — Mandatory evacuations are underway across the Texas Hill Country as life-threatening flash floods have caused significant damage to bridges and roads. Additional heavy rain is expected overnight, exacerbating the ongoing crisis.
A wide area of Texas is forecasted to receive up to 20cm (eight inches) of additional precipitation through Friday morning. This follows a week of continuous downpours, reminiscent of the catastrophic deluge that killed more than 130 people a year ago.
Evacuation efforts have been complicated by nearly 90 road — and highway closures. Local authorities have urged residents in affected areas to heed evacuation orders — and seek shelter immediately.
“The situation is critical. We’re urging everyone in the affected areas to evacuate as soon as possible for their safety,” said a local emergency management official.
The National Weather Service has issued flash flood warnings for multiple counties, indicating that the severe weather conditions are expected to persist. Residents are advised to stay tuned to local news — and weather updates for the latest information.
