POLICY WIRE — Phoenix, Arizona — A newly installed statue of conservative figure Charlie Kirk was targeted by vandals just one day after its official unveiling at the Turning Point USA headquarters in Phoenix.
The incident occurred on Sunday, with red paint smeared across the statue’s face, neck, torso, and left hand—areas that mirrored where Kirk was shot during his fatal attack a year earlier. A sign at the base of the statue, which originally read ‘Jesus defeated death so you can live,’ was also defaced, with ‘Jesus’ replaced by ‘Satan.’

Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, who now leads Turning Point USA, expressed her determination to restore the statue and said the act would not diminish her husband’s legacy. She referenced a quote from Kirk that emphasized perseverance, stating, ‘Charlie once said we should be building two statues for every statue that they tear down.’ Authorities are investigating the incident, though no arrests have been made as of Sunday afternoon.
