The case involved Chander Agarwal, the CEO of TCI Express, who sought repayment for items such as high-end fashion from Hermes, Dior, and Prada, along with first-class travel and other personal expenditures. The court ruled that these were given as gifts, not loans, and thus could not be reclaimed.

Agarwal and Felicia Lee were in a relationship between September 2022 and December 2023. After the breakup, he filed a lawsuit in March 2024, claiming the money was meant as loans. However, Judge Lee Seiu Kin found no clear evidence of this, noting that Agarwal had repeatedly given lavish gifts without expecting repayment. The judge also highlighted that Agarwal, a wealthy individual, had a history of generous spending, while Lee’s income was far more modest.
