POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — A British man has been charged with aiding Russian spies in an attempt to sabotage a drone manufacturing facility in England, according to prosecutors.

Joshua Cammidge, 31, was accused of engaging in conduct that materially assisted a foreign intelligence service under the National Security Act. He did not enter a plea during his initial court appearance and was returned to custody, with a scheduled appearance set for September 25 at the Central Criminal Court.

Cammidge allegedly communicated with a suspected representative of the GRU Volunteer Corps, a group linked to Russia’s military intelligence agency. Prosecutors stated that the communications focused on locations of drone factories in the UK and plans for their sabotage. The GRU Volunteer Corps was designated a national security threat by the UK government earlier this year.
