Local residents first reported the emergency, prompting nearby tourists to notify lifeguards and emergency services. However, Cronin had already fallen before help arrived. According to Nusa Penida’s alert unit coordinator, Cakra Negara, she was searching for an independent path to the cliff’s edge when she slipped and tumbled into a ravine around 9 a.m.

Cronin’s body was discovered on the beach below, where she had already passed away by the time rescuers reached her. Medical exams revealed multiple fractures and injuries caused by the rocky terrain. Due to high tides, a sea evacuation was not possible, so her body was carried up the steep, narrow stairs by rescuers and bystanders over the course of an hour and a half. Footage from Basarnas Bali showed the difficult effort to retrieve her.
