POLICY WIRE — LONDON — A murder investigation has been launched following the death of Ann Widdecombe, a former Conservative minister and Reform UK member, who was found with significant injuries at her home in Devon. Widdecombe, 78, was discovered at her Dartmoor residence on Thursday, July 9, according to Independent TV.
Devon — and Cornwall Police initiated the murder inquiry after the discovery, Independent TV reported. The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.
Just one day prior to her death, Widdecombe made her final television appearance on Talk TV, Independent TV stated. During this broadcast on Wednesday, July 8, she defended Nigel Farage’s re-election bid in Clacton.
Independent TV quoted Widdecombe as saying that Farage’s decision was “the right course to take.” She further commented on Farage, stating, “This is a very decisive man,” and added that she believed he was “taking matters into his own hands.”
Widdecombe had a notable career in British politics, serving as a Conservative Member of Parliament before later becoming a member of Reform UK, Independent TV reported.
