POLICY WIRE — Albuquerque, USA — Travelers passing through the Albuquerque International Sunport can now savor flavors from two beloved local establishments, Laguna Burger and Frank’s Famous Chicken & Waffles, which officially commenced operations on Monday, significantly enhancing the airport’s culinary offerings.
Sunport Welcomes Renowned Local Eateries
Among the new arrivals is Laguna Burger, a culinary institution that began its journey as a humble roadside grill in Laguna, New Mexico. This renowned eatery has built its formidable reputation on its signature green chile cheeseburgers, a regional specialty cherished by locals and visitors alike.
“We are immensely honored to extend the unique Laguna Burger experience to the Sunport,” stated Maxine Velasquez, President and CEO of Laguna Development Corporation. “Our core objective has consistently been to disseminate the genuine essence of New Mexico. Establishing a presence at the Sunport guarantees that every visitor is greeted by the distinct tastes of our region immediately upon their arrival.”
Also joining the airport’s diverse dining landscape is Frank’s Famous Chicken & Waffles, an establishment that has delighted Albuquerque residents for over ten years with its distinctive menu and warm service.
Its founder, Frank Willis, originally relocated from Los Angeles in the early 1990s to play for the New Mexico Lobos. He subsequently launched the popular venture alongside his sister, Tiffany, initially operating from her apartment. This family-operated enterprise successfully transitioned to a more expansive location in 2019 and has consistently earned “Best in the City” accolades from Albuquerque The Magazine, spanning from 2013 through 2025, demonstrating remarkable business growth.

Operational Management and Future Outlook
Both new food service locations will be under the operational management of Tailwind Concessions, ensuring efficient service for the bustling airport environment.
