POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — A teleprompter operator previously assigned to Donald Trump has been dismissed from his position following allegations of placing bets on the content of the then-U.S. president’s speeches with a prediction market. The White House announced the action on Friday.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the operator, identified as Gabriel Perez, was initially placed on unpaid administrative leave following orders directly from the president. Leavitt later stated that Perez would no longer be employed by the White House.
Sources familiar with the matter indicate that Gabriel Perez is currently under investigation by federal regulators regarding potential misconduct related to these activities.
