SYDNEY – Ahmed al Ahmed, a 43-year-old Muslim father of two, has been identified as the courageous bystander who confronted one of the gunmen during Sunday’s mass shooting at Bondi Beach. Hospitalised with gunshot wounds, Ahmed was reported to undergo surgery later Sunday night.
A relative told Policy Wire that Ahmed, a Sutherland-based fruit shop owner with no prior firearms experience, intervened while passing the scene, wrestling the weapon from one of the shooters and likely preventing further loss of life. “He’s a hero 100 per cent,” the relative said.
At least 12 people were killed and 29 others injured in what authorities describe as a targeted attack on a Jewish Hanukkah event. Police confirmed the threat is neutralised, with two suspects in custody; reports indicate a total of three attackers were involved. Officials have yet to verify the assailants’ identities or motives, though political leaders have labelled the incident a terrorist attack.
