In recent times, many international organizations and human rights groups have shown concern about the arrest of Baloch individuals in Pakistan, including Mahrang Baloch, Bebarg Zehri, Beebow Baloch, Shah Jee Sibghat Ullah, Ghaffar Qambarani, and Gulzadi Baloch. These groups claim that these individuals were arrested just for peacefully protesting. However, the situation in Balochistan is not that simple. There is a need to understand Pakistan’s point of view. The reality is that the region has been facing serious challenges such as terrorism, foreign interference, and efforts to divide the country using false narratives.
Pakistan is a country that provides its people with freedom of speech and the right to peaceful protest, as guaranteed by the Constitution. However, when some individuals use these freedoms to support foreign agendas or promote violence, the state has a responsibility to act. In Balochistan, there have been many such cases where protests and activism have been used as covers to carry out harmful activities. These actions not only put lives at risk but also damage the peace and stability of the whole region.
In the past few months, there have been several terrorist attacks in Balochistan. These were not random incidents, but planned and organized acts of violence. Most of these attacks were carried out by the banned terrorist group known as the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA). They have also accepted responsibility for many of these attacks. For example, in March 2025, the BLA hijacked a train called the Jaffar Express that was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar. Many innocent civilians and security personnel were taken hostage. The attack killed over 20 civilians and several security officials. In another deadly incident in May 2025, the BLA planted bombs in the Kacchi and Mach districts. These bombs targeted military vehicles and killed many personnel. One such bomb explosion killed 7 soldiers, while another attack led to the death of 12, including a senior officer.
In another horrible event on May 21, 2025, a suicide bomber drove a car full of explosives into a school bus in Khuzdar. The explosion killed at least 10 people, including children, and injured over 50 others. This attack shocked the entire nation. Just recently, on July 10, BLA gunmen stopped public buses, checked the identity cards of passengers, and kidnapped and killed nine people, most of them from Punjab. A few days later, another group of gunmen attacked a passenger bus going from Quetta to Karachi and killed three people while injuring seven others.
These are not just random acts. They are part of a planned campaign by the BLA to destabilize Pakistan and create fear among its people. The BLA’s goal is to break the unity of the country, and they use violent means to achieve it. Sadly, some individuals who call themselves activists have been supporting such groups either directly or indirectly. There is serious concern that people like Mahrang Baloch and others are not just peaceful protesters but are involved in activities that support terrorism. According to statements from officials, these individuals have links with hostile foreign networks and use their influence to misguide people, especially the youth.
It is important to understand that Pakistan is not acting against anyone for expressing their opinion. The law only takes action when there is proof that someone is working against the state or helping groups that are involved in violence. The law used in these cases, such as the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO), is also used in many democratic countries. It allows the government to prevent actions that might lead to violence or unrest. These laws are not used to punish peaceful citizens but to protect the lives and safety of the public.
Also, Pakistan has an independent court system. Anyone arrested has the right to defend themselves and challenge their detention in court. In many cases, courts have released individuals when there was not enough evidence. This shows that there is a proper system of checks and balances in place. The state does not want to silence anyone. It only wants to stop those who are trying to harm the country in the name of activism or protest.
Pakistan is also working hard to improve life in Balochistan. Many development projects are going on in the region. These include the building of roads, hospitals, schools, and water supply schemes. The purpose of these efforts is to bring better education, health, and opportunities to the people of Balochistan. The security system in the province not only fights terrorism but also helps make it possible for these public welfare projects to continue without fear.
Balochistan is an important part of Pakistan, and its people are proud citizens of the country. The state wants peace and progress for them just like it does for people in every other part of the country. No group or person should be allowed to harm this unity by promoting violence or spreading hate in the name of rights. Pakistan is facing many challenges at once, including economic hardship and security threats. In such times, national unity is more important than ever.
The world should understand that Pakistan is not against human rights. It is against those who misuse human rights slogans to hide their violent goals. The cases of those arrested should be seen in this wider context. If they are innocent, the legal system will free them. But until then, no one should jump to conclusions without knowing the facts on the ground. Pakistan remains committed to being a peaceful, united, and democratic nation. It will continue to protect its people, uphold the law, and build a better future for all citizens, including those in Balochistan.
