Critical Flight Control Part Found Miles From Deadly Florida Learjet Crash
Investigators discovered a vital flight-control mechanism 3.8 miles from the South Florida crash site that killed all nine people aboard the Learjet on Sunday.
POLICY WIRE — West Palm Beach, USA — Federal investigators have recovered a critical component of a Learjet nearly four miles away from the primary impact site, suggesting the aircraft broke apart mid-air.
The tragic accident occurred Sunday afternoon when the private jet slammed into a residential neighborhood in Greenacres, claiming the lives of all nine individuals on board. NNational Transportation Safety Board member Tom Chapman confirmed during a Tuesday briefing that the recovered part, which regulates the aircraft’s angle, was found in three distinct pieces.
The flight was reportedly traveling from Texas to the Bahamas before the disaster in Palm Beach County. A friend of the co-pilot described the audio from the final moments as the worst thing I’ve ever heard, following the distress calls made just before the impact.
