Iran Dismisses US Reply as “Unconvincing” as Trump Confirms Strikes on Hormuz Islands
Iran rebuffs U.S. reply to its seven Hormuz reopening demands as Trump confirms strikes on Qeshm and Hengam islands, heightening regional tension.
POLICY WIRE — Tehran, Iran — Iran labeled the United States’ response to its seven conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz “unconvincing” while President Donald Trump acknowledged U.S. strikes on an Iranian anti‑aircraft site.
Tehran has communicated that it received an official U.S. answer to its proposal aimed at ending the seven‑month conflict, but officials say the reply fell short of the “definitive” language they sought.
State media in Iran reported loud explosions on the islands of Qeshm and Hengam, as well as in the nearby mainland city of Bandar Abbas, following the strikes.
The attacks were not publicly announced beforehand, a departure from earlier statements in which President Trump asserted the United States would refrain from striking Iran before the midterm elections.
Despite President Trump publicly rejecting Tehran’s latest offer, Iranian authorities maintain they are awaiting a conclusive U.S. position on the Hormuz reopening plan.
