POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C., United States — A recent national poll of 731 active-duty personnel, veterans and military families shows 79 % feel politicians and broader society are neglecting their needs.
The Common Defense Civic Engagement survey, fielded in September and released in late October, recorded 48 % of respondents strongly agreeing with that sentiment, while 15 % disagreed.
Two‑thirds of those surveyed also believe that decisions impacting troops are driven by political advantage rather than strategic necessity.
Among active‑duty members, 53 % indicated they would prefer to leave the service sooner if military matters continue to be politicized.
The poll’s demographic profile leans older, predominantly white, male and more Republican than the nation , which may shape its perspectives.
Respondents expressed a negative view of the country’s direction and felt their voices are under‑represented in national political debates.
