POLICY WIRE — Kyiv, Ukraine — A volatile confrontation unfolded on November 2, 2026, in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, a village on the outskirts of Kyiv, as hundreds of civilians gathered outside a private residence.
Protesters claimed that active service members and draftees were being held and physically abused inside the unmarked building, prompting a tense standoff with security forces.
Members of the National Guard deployed to the scene to prevent the crowd from entering the property, where they said newly mobilized troops were housed.
The 1st Corps of the National Guard clarified that the individuals in the building included recently mobilized soldiers as well as those detained for unauthorized departure from their units, who were awaiting new assignments.
Four of the detained service members sustained injuries and were subsequently transported to a hospital for medical examination, officials stated.
Meduza reported that Prokopenko warned against the information campaign surrounding the events in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, arguing that it plays into Russia’s hands.
Investigative reports from Mezha.net indicate that the owner of a local plastic surgery clinic is implicated in the case regarding the detention.
Ukrainian media outlets, including UA.NEWS, confirmed that employees from the Office of the Military Ombudsman and the State Bureau of Investigation are currently on the scene investigating the incident.
