POLICY WIRE — Kyiv, Ukraine — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Sunday that recent Russian offensive operations have severed electricity supply to thousands of homes across the nation.
According to the President, energy infrastructure in four distinct regions was specifically targeted during overnight attacks. The affected areas include Dnipro, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, and Khmelnytskyi.
The scale of the disruption has been severe, with Zelenskyy noting that hundreds of thousands of households currently lack power due to the damage inflicted on critical grid assets.
Additional details from Ukrainian media indicate a significant number of residents remain without electricity. Approximately 200,000 households in Dnipro and the surrounding region are reportedly affected.
In the capital region, more than 80,000 households in the Kyiv area have also lost electric service following the incursions.
Russian drones were identified as the primary agents of destruction, with strikes reported against combined heat and power plants in both Kyiv and Shostka.
