POLICY WIRE — New York, USA — Ukraine has formally requested an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council to address a new wave of lethal Russian attacks on its civilian population. The diplomatic intervention aims to hold Moscow accountable for strikes that targeted major cities across the country.
The deadly operations, which took place on Friday, October 30, resulted in at least 25 fatalities and 110 injuries nationwide. Russian missiles and drones inflicted severe damage on Dnipro, Chernihiv, and Kremenchuk in the Poltava region.
Andriy Melnyk, Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, announced the convening of the urgent meeting on X. He cited the deliberate nature of the assaults, stating that Russian weapons intentionally killed 20 people and wounded dozens more in those specific locations.
Melnik condemned the events as barbaric atrocities against civilians. In his statement, he emphasized that the geographic spread of the strikes proves no part of Ukraine is safe from Russian aggression.
The Ukrainian diplomat explicitly demanded that Russia be expelled from the UN forum as a condition for the emergency proceedings. This request underscores Kyiv’s push for immediate international accountability in response to the latest casualty surges.
The strikes highlighted in the report included a rail platform in Dnipro where 14 people were killed, alongside other fatal impacts in the affected cities. These figures align with broader reports of multiple deaths occurring across different Ukrainian towns simultaneously.
