Flavio Bolsonaro Arrives in US Following Defeat in Brazilian Presidential Election
Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro travels to Miami following a presidential election defeat, amid ongoing federal investigations and passport orders.
POLICY WIRE — Sao Paulo, Brazil — Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro departed his home country for the United States following his defeat in the recent presidential runoff election.
Three separate sources confirmed the departure on Tuesday afternoon, while the U.S. State Department moved to grant entry visas to the senator and his family members.
The right-wing politician, who represents the Liberal Party, landed at Opa-locka Executive Airport near Miami, Florida, on Wednesday morning accompanied by his wife and two daughters.
The international travel follows Sunday’s election loss to incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, marking a significant political shift in Brasilia.
Bolsonaro’s exit from Brazil occurred days after he failed to comply with a direct court order instructing him to surrender his passports to the federal police.
The departure also coincides with active investigations in Brazil focusing on allegations of corruption, money laundering, and tax evasion involving the senator.
