Duchess Meghan Confronted Father Over Abuse Allegations in 2025 Hospital Letter
Duchess Meghan addressed child sexual abuse allegations in a 2025 letter to her father, Thomas Markle Sr., amid an ongoing investigation in the Philippines.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — Authorities in the Philippines confirmed last week that they are investigating Thomas Markle Sr. regarding allegations of possessing child sexual abuse imagery. The materials were reportedly turned over to law enforcement by his son, Thomas Markle Jr.
The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan, issued a statement last week expressing that she was deeply distressed by the news of the investigation. She noted that she first became aware of allegations against her father in 2018, when London’s Metropolitan Police provided her with a letter detailing the claims, which prompted her and Prince Harry to sever contact between her father and their children.
Exclusive footage obtained by the Daily Mail appears to show Thomas Markle Sr. receiving a letter from his daughter while in a U.S. hospital in December 2025. According to the BBC, the correspondence stated that the duchess and authorities knew he had abused young girls and confirmed he would never have contact with his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet.
In a Sunday report from the Mail, 82-year-old Thomas Markle Sr. stated he could not recall the specific contents of the letter but acknowledged that if Meghan claimed that was what she wrote, she was likely correct. Previously, he had dismissed the allegations as sick lies and insisted he had never downloaded such materials.
While he admitted to paying for sex in the Philippines, he reiterated his denial regarding the possession of child sexual abuse materials and maintained he never engaged in sexual activity with anyone under the age of 18. He has pledged to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
Reports from The Sun indicate that the Metropolitan Police were alerted to various claims against Markle in 2019, including allegations of child sexual abuse, and subsequently forwarded this information to the office of the Duchess of Sussex. Meghan emphasized in her statement that her decision to distance her family from her father was strictly motivated by a desire to protect her children.
Regarding the 2018 correspondence, a Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed they are conducting internal inquiries to verify the involvement of the Royalty and Specialist Protection Command in delivering the letter. London police are not currently conducting their own investigation into Thomas Markle.
Royal commentator Nikkhah suggested that while the public may feel sympathy for the duchess regarding this ordeal, it remains to be seen if these revelations will alter public perception of the couple’s previous grievances with the royal family. The couple is reportedly back in the region for an extended period.
