Flavio Bolsonaro Refuses to Concede Brazil Vote, Seeks Annulment
Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro refuses to concede the presidential runoff to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, demanding an annulment over court rulings.
POLICY WIRE — Brasilia, Brazil — Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro announced on Sunday that he would not concede defeat to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva following an election that secured Lula a fourth non-consecutive term.
The right-wing senator and presidential candidate for the Liberal Party indicated that he plans to pursue the annulment of the presidential runoff. He criticized a decision by Supreme Court Justice Cristiano Zanin to extend voting hours by two hours as entirely unacceptable.
Late on Sunday, Bolsonaro condemned the voting time extension as unprecedented, despite the fact that requests to extend the hours had been submitted by both his camp and Lula’s campaign. He asserted that it was impossible to accept the outcome of a chaotic vote that faced allegations of voter suppression.
