Brewers Pitcher Jacob Misiorowski Shatters World Series Pitch Velocity Record
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski sets a new World Series velocity record with a 103.5 mph fastball against the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 1.
POLICY WIRE — Milwaukee, United States — Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski etched his name into the baseball record books during Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night, October 23, 2026. Facing Tampa Bay Rays batter Yandy Díaz, the 24-year-old right-hander launched the opening pitch of the Fall Classic at an astonishing 103.5 mph, establishing a new benchmark for the fastest pitch ever recorded in the World Series.
While the stadium video boards initially listed the high-heat offering at 103.4 mph as it sailed just above the strike zone for a ball, MLB’s Statcast tracking system officially clocked the velocity at 103.5 mph. The performance eclipsed the previous Series record held by Aroldis Chapman of the Chicago Cubs, who threw a 103.2 mph pitch in the ninth inning of Game 2 back in 2016 against Cleveland batter Coco Crisp.
Misiorowski’s blistering delivery also shattered the historical high for starting pitchers in the Fall Classic since comprehensive tracking began in 2008. The previous starter record belonged to Noah Syndergaard of the New York Mets, who threw a 101.1 mph pitch to Kansas City’s Ben Zobrist in the first inning of Game 3 in 2015.
Throughout the evening, the rookie sensation consistently overwhelmed hitters with extreme velocity, reaching the 100 mph threshold across 38 separate pitches. That figure drastically surpassed Chapman’s previous Series high of 24 pitches at 100 mph or greater, set during Game 5 of the 2016 championship.
Misiorowski ultimately worked five innings against Tampa Bay, allowing one run and four hits while striking out three batters and leaving the contest with a 2-1 advantage. His outing included 30 pitches clocked at 101 mph or higher, 11 reaching at least 102 mph, and three touching 103 mph or above, though he generated only seven total swings and misses.
Tampa Bay eventually broke through in the fourth frame when Jonathan Aranda drew a walk, advanced to third on a double by Junior Caminero over center fielder Garrett Mitchell, and scored on a grounder to first baseman Jake Bauers off the bat of Liam Hicks.
The young hurler’s historic night follows a dominant season that included a 105.5 mph fastball thrown to Chicago Cubs batter Pete Crow-Armstrong on June 27, 2025, narrowly trailing Chapman’s all-time regular-season record of 105.8 mph. Misiorowski also previously set a postseason velocity mark earlier this month by touching 104.8 mph against San Diego’s Fernando Tatis Jr. in the opening game of the National League Division Series on October 3.
