POLICY WIRE — Zurich, Switzerland — Industrial powerhouse ABB reported a significant surge in third-quarter earnings on Tuesday, bolstered by a sustained boom in capital expenditure for artificial intelligence-focused data centers.
The Swiss-Swedish engineering firm announced that its operational earnings before interest, tax, and amortisation climbed 24% to reach $2.03 billion for the period ending in September. This performance slightly outperformed market forecasts, underscoring the company’s robust position in the global electrification sector.
Total orders for the quarter rose by 12% to $9.14 billion, a figure that surpassed analyst expectations. The company attributed this momentum primarily to the rapid expansion of electrical infrastructure required to support the growing artificial intelligence landscape.
Looking ahead to the final quarter of 2026, the company projects comparable revenue growth in the mid-single digit range. Management anticipates that the Operational EBITA margin will likely experience a sequential softening of approximately 150 basis points compared to the third quarter, consistent with historical seasonal patterns, while noting ongoing uncertainty in the broader global business climate.
