Private Jet Skids Off Runway at Harry Reid International, Disrupting Hundreds of Flights
A private jet crashed into a perimeter fence at Las Vegas' Harry Reid International Airport, triggering a ground stop and delaying over 360 flights.
POLICY WIRE — Las Vegas, USA — A private aircraft veered off the runway during a scheduled takeoff at Harry Reid International Airport on Sunday, resulting in a collision with a perimeter fence.
Airport spokesperson Monika Bertaki confirmed that the incident took place at approximately 11 a.m. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among those involved.
The aircraft, identified as a Dassault Falcon 50, was headed to Toronto’s Pearson International Airport when it exited the tarmac. Authorities have not yet determined the specific cause of the runway excursion.
In an official statement, the airport noted: “At approximately 11 a.m., upon departure, a general aviation aircraft skid off runway 1L at LAS and made contact with the perimeter fence. There are no known injuries at this time. Runways 1R and 1L will be closed for inspection, and travelers may experience some delays. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
The Federal Aviation Administration implemented a temporary ground stop to facilitate safety inspections on two runways. This disruption impacted approximately 360 flights, with many passengers facing delays exceeding one hour before the FAA cleared operations by Sunday evening.
The facility remains a major hub, having recorded over 370,000 operations and serving more than 34 million passengers through August of 2026.
