Kim Yo Jong Rejects Claims of North Korean Loudspeaker Removal, Warns of New Broadcasts
Kim Yo Jong dismisses South Korean reports of border loudspeaker removal as a pipedream, signaling potential escalation amid upcoming joint military drills.
POLICY WIRE — Pyongyang, North Korea — Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, issued a sharp rebuke on Thursday regarding South Korean assertions that Pyongyang has begun dismantling propaganda loudspeakers along the inter-Korean border.
In a statement released via state media, Kim characterized the belief that the North is removing its border equipment as a pipedream. She accused Seoul of intentionally misleading the public regarding the status of the psychological warfare tools.
The high-ranking official, who plays a central role in the country’s propaganda apparatus, further signaled that the North is actively considering the deployment of additional tactical weapons. She also hinted at the potential resumption of loudspeaker broadcasts directed toward Seoul.
Kim’s remarks arrive as regional tensions climb ahead of scheduled joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea. She cited these upcoming drills as evidence of persistent hostility, reiterating that Pyongyang maintains no interest in restarting stalled diplomatic negotiations with either Washington or Seoul.
