A 19-year-old Norwegian man is sentenced to 20 years for a UK murder plot orchestrated by the Iran-linked Foxtrot Network. Read the full case details.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — A 19-year-old Norwegian national has been handed a 20-year detention sentence following his involvement in a lethal conspiracy to commit murder within the United Kingdom.
Johannes Natland was apprehended by authorities in March 2025 inside a hotel room located in Huddersfield, northern England. At the time of his arrest, police discovered two firearms and a cache of ammunition in his possession.
Prosecutors established that Natland had been enlisted by the Foxtrot Network, a Swedish criminal organization known to act as a proxy for the Iranian government. The group is currently under official sanctions from both the United States and the United Kingdom.
While Natland acknowledged the charges related to the possession of a semi-automatic pistol, a revolver, and ammunition, he maintained his innocence regarding the conspiracy to murder charge. He argued that he never intended to execute the violent plot.
Following a retrial, a jury convicted Natland in July. The sentence was formally handed down at Woolwich Crown Court in London.
This case highlights a growing trend of young adults being recruited via the internet to perform serious criminal acts for financial gain. Often, these individuals are utilized as unwitting proxies to carry out operations on behalf of foreign states.
