POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — A Norwegian teenager who flew to the United Kingdom to execute a contract killing on behalf of a Swedish criminal organization linked to the Iranian state has been sentenced to 20 years behind bars.
During the trial at the Old Bailey, jurors learned that Johannes Natland traveled from Stavanger in south-west Norway to Britain with the objective of eliminating a designated target in exchange for a payment of £21,000.
Investigators uncovered the assassination scheme after the defendant shared photographs of himself with firearms with his girlfriend and acquaintances.
Authorities ultimately apprehended Natland inside a hotel room located in Huddersfield, where law enforcement officers recovered a semi-automatic pistol alongside additional items.
