Trump Reverses Course on Livestreaming Nidal Hasan Execution
President Trump confirms the firing-squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan will not be livestreamed, despite previous comments from the Pentagon.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that the federal government will not broadcast the upcoming firing-squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan. The decision marks a direct reversal of a prior statement made by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
In a post on Truth Social, the president acknowledged that while broadcasting the event could serve as a powerful deterrent to show how the nation handles terrorists and scum like Hasan, he ultimately decided against it. Trump noted that many well-meaning individuals expressed a preference against witnessing the death through a digital stream or any other visual medium.
The president confirmed that the execution will proceed as planned on Dec. 3. He further stated that while the public will not have access to a stream, the families of those affected by the Fort Hood tragedy will be granted the option to attend the execution in person.
Hasan was sentenced to death in 2013 following his conviction for the 2009 attack, which resulted in the deaths of 13 people and left 32 others injured.
