POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — Chinese automotive giant Chery has announced plans to introduce its iCAUR brand to the British market in early 2027. The expansion will be spearheaded by the V27, a five-seat electrified SUV designed to blend rugged off-road aesthetics with practical daily utility.
This strategic move arrives three years after Chery first entered the UK with its Omoda brand. The company currently maintains a presence in 40 countries, according to its export division, Chery International.
Data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders indicates that Chery’s collective brands have captured a 7% market share in Britain through September of this year. This performance establishes the firm as the top-selling Chinese automaker in the country and the second-largest seller, trailing only Volkswagen.
The upcoming iCAUR brand will join an existing UK portfolio that includes Chery, Omoda, Lepas, and Jaecoo. The V27 model has already undergone testing for British road conditions at the UTAC Millbrook research and development center.
In other global markets, the V27 is marketed as a range-extended electric vehicle, utilizing a 1.5-litre petrol engine to support its electric powertrain. The launch comes as European manufacturers face mounting pressure from Chinese competitors regarding pricing and trade tariffs.
