Poll Reveals Nearly Half of Britons Refuse to Fight for Country
A new Ipsos survey shows 48% of UK adults would not go to war for Britain under any circumstances, despite public support for increased defense spending.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — A significant portion of the British public remains unwilling to take up arms for their nation, according to fresh data released by pollster Ipsos.
The survey indicates that 48% of adults in the UK would refuse to fight for their country under any circumstances. This figure remains consistent with findings recorded in April 2025.
While a large segment of the population rejects the prospect of military service, the data shows that only 36% of Britons would be willing to go to war for Britain. The remaining respondents indicated they were unsure of their stance.
Despite the reluctance to serve, the study highlights that there is still robust public support for boosting national defense spending. These findings emerge shortly after the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO, a US General, stated that the alliance is prepared to fight tonight amid ongoing concerns regarding Russia.
