POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — Star Wars actor John Boyega has surprised fans by announcing the birth of his first son, alongside the revelation that he secretly married his partner two years ago.
The 34-year-old performer, widely recognized for his role as Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, shared the personal milestone in an update posted to Instagram on Wednesday, October 14.
Alongside pictures featuring American actor Tae Heckard and a video with his newborn, Boyega wrote on social media that their bundle of joy had been with them for some time while thanking supporters for their well wishes.
The announcement follows a recent interview with The Guardian published earlier this month, during which Boyega disclosed that he and the 48-year-old actor wed in 2024.
During that conversation, the Peckham-born star confirmed they were expecting a baby boy and noted that he also shares a young stepson from Heckard’s previous relationship with NBA player Brandon Jennings.
Tae Boyega is well known for her appearances in music videos for artists such as Busta Rhymes, Ginuwine, and Ne-Yo, as well as roles in the Netflix sitcom #BlackAF, BET series The Game, and the 2006 film ATL.
While Boyega typically maintains a private personal life, he previously stated in a 2022 interview with GQ that he is disciplined in his dating choices and exclusively dates Black women based on chemistry, personality, and shared goals.
Beyond his blockbuster film career in projects including BBC One’s Small Axe, The Woman King, and Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots, Boyega recently appeared in the BBC documentary Damilola: The Untold Story.
In the documentary, he discussed being among the last people to see Damilola Taylor alive before the 10-year-old was killed in 2000, noting that the tragedy and subsequent pursuit of a scholarship at Theatre Peckham inspired him to begin his acting journey at a young age.
