Russian Drone Attack on Western Ukrainian City of Lutsk Kills Three and Injures Twelve
A Russian drone attack on the western Ukrainian city of Lutsk killed three people and injured twelve, regional officials report amid escalating strikes.
POLICY WIRE — Lutsk, Ukraine — A Russian drone strike targeting the western Ukrainian city of Lutsk in Volyn Oblast has left three individuals dead and at least 12 others wounded.
Regional governor Roman Romaniuk confirmed the casualties on Telegram following the overnight bombardment. Debris from a downed Russian jet drone plummeted directly onto the municipality, sparking a massive fire at the Evrogurt warehouse located on Konyakina Street.
Emergency response crews managed to localize the blaze after it completely engulfed the commercial food store building. While initial reports indicated seven injuries, the regional military administration later updated the total number of wounded victims to 12.
The deadly strike in Lutsk coincided with a massive nationwide aerial assault by Moscow forces. The Ukrainian air force reported that Russia launched a record 728 Shahed and decoy drones alongside 13 missiles overnight.
Situated in far-western Ukraine only 90 kilometers from the Polish border, Lutsk had largely escaped the heavy missile and drone bombardments typically directed at eastern regions. However, regional reporting notes that this relative safety has deteriorated as Russia intensifies aerial assaults across the area over recent weeks, with additional drone impacts also reported in neighboring Rivne.
