Poll: Americans Believe Trump Prioritizes Personal Wealth Over Public Interest
A new AP-NORC poll reveals most Americans suspect President Trump of unethical financial gain, prioritizing his business empire over the nation's needs.
POLICY WIRE — New York, USA — A fresh survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research indicates that a majority of Americans view President Donald Trump’s business activities as unethical or potentially illegal. Approximately 6 in 10 U.S. adults believe the president is leveraging his office for personal financial gain, while only 2 in 10 suggest he is acting appropriately.
The data highlights a significant perception gap regarding the president’s priorities. While just over half of respondents believe Trump is heavily focused on his personal financial interests since returning to the White House, only about 25% feel he is prioritizing the country as a whole. A mere 1 in 10 Americans believe he is dedicating significant attention to the needs of average citizens.
The White House has consistently rejected these allegations, maintaining that the president faces no conflicts of interest and remains committed to the national interest. Despite these denials, the administration’s financial disclosures show over $1 billion in revenue from new cryptocurrency ventures, alongside numerous international real estate deals struck during his second term.
Partisan divides remain sharp, with roughly 8 in 10 Democrats characterizing the president’s actions as illegal. Conversely, many Republicans remain skeptical of the criticism, with some supporters dismissing the concerns as politically motivated. The poll, which surveyed 2,140 adults between September 24 and September 28, carries a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
