Billy Crystal shares how recent tragedies, including Rob Reiner's death, have impacted his faith and life.
POLICY WIRE — New York, United States — Billy Crystal has opened up about a profound shift in his spiritual beliefs following a series of devastating events, including the destruction of his Los Angeles home in wildfires and the passing of his close friend Rob Reiner in December 2025.
The 78-year-old actor revealed during a CBS Sunday Morning interview that he no longer engages in conversations with God, a change from his past experiences detailed in his 2004 Tony-winning show 700 Sundays. He told correspondent Tracy Smith, ‘No, because I — I don’t trust him,’ when asked if he still speaks to God.
Celebrating the release of his new Broadway play 860, named after the address of the home he lost, Crystal discussed the emotional weight of the year filled with loss. He shared that Reiner had helped him choose the play’s title before his death. The filmmaker and his wife were found deceased in their Los Angeles home in December 2025, with their son currently facing trial for the murders.
