England Sets Record With 39 Centrally Contracted Cricket Players for 2026/27 Season
England names record 39 centrally contracted players for 2026/27, including 30 full contracts and nine development deals.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — England has set a new benchmark in cricket by expanding its list of centrally contracted players to a record 39 for the 2026/27 season, according to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
The ECB announced that 30 players will receive full central contracts, while an additional nine will be awarded England Development Contracts. This marks the largest group of contracted players in the history of the English men’s team.
Among the new additions are eight players who have earned their first full central contracts, signaling a shift in the board’s strategy as it prepares for key international fixtures, including the Ashes and World Cup. The move also comes after the exclusion of Zak Crawley and Luke Wood from the central contract list.
