Quentin Tarantino's first stage play 'The Popinjay Cavalier' debuts in London with Sacha Baron Cohen. A swashbuckling comedy set in 1830s Europe.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — Quentin Tarantino, the acclaimed filmmaker known for classics like “Pulp Fiction” and “Inglourious Basterds,” is making his debut in the world of theater with a new stage production titled The Popinjay Cavalier. The play will open in London’s West End in March and features renowned comedian and actor Sacha Baron Cohen in a leading role.
The play, set in 1830s Europe, is described as a rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise, drawing inspiration from classic swashbuckling tales. It marks Baron Cohen’s West End debut and is directed by Tarantino himself. The production will begin previews on February 23 and officially open on March 18 at the Phoenix Theatre.
Tarantino, who last directed a feature film in 2019 with “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood,” has also been working on a sequel to that film, which is scheduled for release in November. Meanwhile, he has written a novelization of both films, set to be published in December by HarperCollins.
