Taiwan Closely Monitors Chinese Live-Fire Drills Along Coast
Taiwan defense minister confirms monitoring of Chinese live-fire drills along coast. Details on military exercises and regional tensions.
POLICY WIRE — Taipei, Taiwan — Taiwan’s defense minister has confirmed that the country is closely tracking a series of Chinese live-fire military exercises taking place along its coastline this week.
The exercises, which include simulated port blockades, mark one of the most extensive operations conducted by China near the self-governing island in recent years. The drills involve multiple branches of the Chinese military and are spread across five zones off Taiwan’s coast.
Defense Minister Wellington Koo stated that Taiwan’s military is actively monitoring the activities. This comes amid heightened regional tensions, with China continuing to assert its territorial claims over Taiwan and warning against external interference in the region.
