Houthis Warn of Further Attacks on Saudi Airspace After Deadly Riyadh Airport Strike
Houthis threaten Saudi airports after deadly attack in Riyadh, killing 12 including U.S. citizen. Global leaders condemn violence.
POLICY WIRE — Riyadh, Yemen — The Houthi movement has issued a new warning targeting Saudi Arabia’s airspace following a deadly attack at King Khalid International Airport that killed at least 12 people, including a U.S. citizen, and injured hundreds more.
The strike, the most lethal on Saudi soil in over a decade, marked a significant escalation in the conflict between the Iran-backed Houthis and the Kingdom. It also intensified regional tensions as efforts to curb the broader U.S.-Iran conflict face renewed challenges.
Saudi authorities have kept the airport closed and shifted school operations online in response to the threat. Flights were rerouted, and several countries, including the U.S., Britain, Germany, Australia, and Canada, advised citizens to avoid the area. While the Houthis did not immediately claim responsibility for the attack, they warned of future strikes on airports, excluding Mecca and Medina, urging travelers to heed their warnings.
