Trump’s Memorial Arch Faces New Lawsuit from Arlington County
Arlington County sues to stop Trump's memorial arch, citing environmental and safety concerns. Legal battle over the project intensifies.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — Arlington County, Virginia, has filed a lawsuit against the proposed construction of the Trump Memorial Arch, marking the first legal challenge from a governmental body against the project.
The lawsuit, filed in the Eastern District of Virginia, criticizes the rapid pace of the project without proper review. It argues that the National Park Service is moving too quickly toward construction, potentially violating the National Environmental Policy Act by skipping necessary analysis and testing.
Arlington County Board Chair Matt de Ferranti stated the project would have severe impacts on the community, which he claims have been ignored. The county is represented by the advocacy group Democracy Forward, while the White House and Interior Department have not yet commented on the case.
