Slow Horses Actor Reacts to Character’s Death: ‘I’m Not Alright About It’
Actor Tom Brooke shares emotional response to character's death in Slow Horses season six. Fans stunned by twist.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — The sixth season of Apple TV’s popular spy series Slow Horses has sparked strong reactions from fans and cast members alike, especially after a major character was killed off in episode four.
The latest season, which premiered last month with new episodes released weekly through 21 October, marks the first without long-time showrunner Will Smith. The story took a dramatic turn when JK Coe, a beloved character played by actor Tom Brooke, met his end in a violent knife fight at a service station toilet.
Brooke, who joined the show in season four, revealed his mixed emotions about the character’s fate. He shared that he initially felt okay about the death but changed his mind after reading the first book in the Slough House series that doesn’t feature Coe. I wouldn’t want to say I burst into tears, but I was like, ‘I can’t read this. I can’t engage with this world again because I’m not part of it.’

Brooke had already accepted the character’s death before joining the show, having read the books as part of his three-season contract. He worked closely with the showrunners to ensure the scene remained faithful to the source material. The mundaneness of the death scene in the book appealed to me, he said, highlighting the realistic details that made Coe’s final moments unique.
Season six also brings back fan-favorite Sid Baker, played by Olivia Cooke, who had been absent since season one. The returning cast includes Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden, Christopher Chung, Kristen Scott Thomas, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Joanna Scanlan, and Aimee-Ffion Edwards.
